The
City of Burbank's Workforce Connection
This Center is an annex to the Verdugo Jobs Center and will
be comprised of two components: A Community Job Resource Center
and a Business Assistance Center.
As
we face the possibility of a recession and increasing lay-offs
in the entertainment industry and other industries affected
by the Sept. 11 crisis, we expect the WorkForce Connection
to be a great asset to this community and a great addition
to the Verdugo Jobs Center. This center will have a
very positive impact on the workforce community in Burbank
and is subject to great potential for growth in the future
as part of the City's Economic Development Strategic Plan.

The
Verdugo Jobs Center
is a one-stop career center. These centers are federally
funded and have been set up across the country to provide
people and employers access, at a single location, to a variety
of employment resources. This center serves the Verdugo
Region, and it's part of a partnership between La Canada-Flintridge,
Glendale, and Burbank.
The
Verdugo Jobs Center opened to the public two years ago
and is funded through a combination of federal entitlement
monies and grants. The Verdugo Jobs Center operates
through the cooperation of 14 government agencies, including
the state Employment Development Department, the California
Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Los Angeles County
Department of Public Social Services, Glendale Community College,
City of Burbank and City of La Canada Flintridge. This
center offers a number of services to the unemployed, including
25 free-access resource computers and bilingual staff members
offering placement services.
